Definitions for common Pivot terms, including organizations, spaces, rooms, blocks, roles, permissions, and memberships.
Access request A request submitted by a user to join a space when direct access is not available. Space admins can review and approve or decline requests.
Admin An organization admin role with broad management permissions. Admins can manage members, spaces, settings, billing, and integrations, but cannot transfer ownership.
Analytics Reporting and activity data for a space. Analytics can include member activity, room activity, block activity, attendance, and other usage patterns.
API key A credential used to authenticate an integration or developer connection. API keys are managed from the organization’s integrations area.
Architect A built-in space role with full admin-level access inside a space. Architects can manage space settings, members, and content.
Assignment A block used to assign structured work, usually in a course space. Assignments can include instructions, due dates, and grading-related information.
Audio room A room for voice-only conversations. Audio rooms are typically used for calls, brainstorming, or focused discussions without video.
Block A content or workflow element in Pivot. Blocks include items such as pages, databases, goals, forms, polls, events, charts, and canvases.
Breakout group A smaller discussion group created during a live session. Breakout groups are used to split participants into separate working groups and then bring them back together.
Calendar A block used to organize and view events or deadlines. Each calendar acts as its own event database inside a space.
Canvas A block used for visual planning and collaboration. Canvases support brainstorming, diagramming, and real-time editing.
Chart A block used to visualize data from a database or goal. Charts can display information in formats such as bar, column, line, pie, score, or table.
Chat room A room used for ongoing text-based communication. Chat rooms support messages, replies, reactions, threads, files, and audio or video messages.
Clip A trimmed section of a recording. Clips are used to save and share shorter moments from a longer session.
Database A block used to organize and manage structured information. Databases can be used for tasks, resources, project data, and other tracked items.
Direct room A one-to-one room for private communication between two users. Direct rooms can include chat, audio, or video.
Event A block used to create and manage scheduled activities. Events can include dates, times, locations, and links to Pivot rooms or other locations.
Form A block used to collect information in a structured way. Forms can be used for surveys, submissions, feedback, or data collection.
Full member A built-in space role with standard contributor access. Full members can create and edit content, join rooms, and participate in discussions.
Group A set of users that can be managed together for access and role assignment. Groups can be used when sharing spaces and content at scale.
Guest member A limited-access member type used in sharing and permissions. Guest members typically have view-only access instead of full editing access.
Goal A block used to define objectives, track progress, and manage milestones or cycles. Goals can support list, board, timeline, and calendar views.
Membership tier A paid access level within a space. Membership tiers can be configured with pricing, billing frequency, and tier-specific benefits or access.
Org admin A user with an administrative role at the organization level, such as owner, admin, or viewer. Org admins manage organization-wide settings rather than space-specific work.
Organization The top-level administrative layer in Pivot. An organization manages settings, members, security, billing, domains, and integrations.
Owner The highest-level organization admin role. The owner can manage all organization settings, including billing, security, integrations, and ownership transfer.
Page A block used for structured written content. Pages can contain text, media, links, and nested pages, and are commonly used for documentation, plans, and lesson content.
Permissions The rules that control access and actions in Pivot. Permissions define what someone can view, edit, manage, comment on, or share.
Pivot inbox The in-app notification inbox for account and activity updates. Users can choose Pivot inbox as one of their notification delivery methods.
Poll A block used to collect votes or quick input from members. Polls are commonly used for decisions, feedback, and prioritization.
Post room A room used for structured, topic-based discussions. Post rooms are better suited to updates, announcements, and conversations that need to stay visible over time.
Preferences The account area where a user manages settings such as notifications, themes, timezone, voice settings, and connected email addresses.
Public can join A space access setting that allows anyone with the link to join the space using the default configured role.
Public can request A space access setting that allows external users to request access to a space instead of joining directly.
Push notification A desktop or mobile notification sent when the user is not actively in the app.
Quiz A block used to test knowledge or understanding. Quizzes are commonly used in course spaces.
Recording A saved audio, video, or streaming session. Recordings can include transcripts, comments, and playback inside the room.
Room A communication area in Pivot. Depending on the type, a room can be used for chat, posts, audio, video, streaming, or direct conversations. Rooms are similar to what other platforms call a channel.
Rubric A grading framework attached to assignments. Rubrics help define evaluation criteria and expectations.
Space The main area where work is organized in Pivot. A space is typically created for a community, course, project, or team, and contains its own members, rooms, blocks, and settings.
Space role A role assigned within a specific space. Space roles define what a member can see and do in that space.
Streaming room A room designed for live broadcasts to larger audiences. Streaming rooms support countdowns, speaker requests, audience participation, and live chat.
Video room A room for live video conversations, meetings, and presentations. Video rooms also support settings, side chat, recordings, transcripts, and clips.
Viewer A read-only organization admin role. Viewers can see organization details and settings, but cannot make changes.
